DrugExplorer’s unique combination of user-searchable data provides users with a powerful capability for accessing current drug information using a combination of parameters. This combination of current data and a combination parameter query capability forms the basis for HID’s pending patent application on DrugExplorer.

As an example of the power of DrugExplorer, consider the situation of a user who wants a list of drugs that are indicated for treatment of hypertension in a patient with asthma. That is, the user is looking for drugs indicated for hypertension and not contraindicated for asthma. The user knows that the beta blocker class of drugs is indicated for treatment of hypertension, but is contraindicated for patients with asthma. Therefore, with this query, the user asks DrugExplorer to find and list all drugs indicated for treatment of hypertension except the beta blockers. Conversely, if the user wanted a list of the beta blockers, the query would ask DrugExplorer to find and list all drugs indicated for hypertension AND contraindicated in the presence of asthma.

A number of other parameters can also be used in the queries such as class interactions, drug interactions, dosage, indications, contraindications (relative and absolute), precautions, warnings, manufacturer, and NDC. The user can find a drug of interest by searching on any combination of these parameters.
