Setting Maximum Allowable Costs

Since the prices of generically available drugs can vary quite widely, a Maximum Allowable Cost program helps insure the client receives best value for the money spent. Maximum Allowable Cost (MAC) is an expansion of the Federal Upper Limit (FUL) Program (42 CFR 447.332) and applies to generic and multi-source brand name products for which there are at least three different manufacturers.

HID has experience in developing and operating prior authorization programs and maximum allowable cost programs for both Medicaid and non-Medicaid clients.
